I show humility in my words and in my work, and I humbly accept my rewards.
Taking some pride in my work has value when it leads me to do my best for others. When I am thinking primarily about myself I can become prideful, and this can harm me and those around me.
A well known spiritual principle teaches us that selfish pride can lead to disgrace. I can help prevent this by realizing that God is my source of the ideas and energy that bring success to my work. In my times of prayer I ask for humility and acknowledge the divine good that flows to me.
Any time I am feeling prideful about my work as though I am doing it all alone, I stop and remember that my creator is with me on the job. I humbly acknowledge this with gratitude.
”Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real.” – Thomas Merton
